Standing at an open refrigerator, wondering what on earth to make? This is a job an AI helper is genuinely good at.

Talk to it like a friend who happens to have every cookbook memorized. You don't need exact measurements to start — just tell it roughly what you've got.

The simple version, in three steps

  1. Tell it what you have. “I've got chicken, a can of tomatoes, an onion, and some rice. What can I make?” It'll give you a few real options.
  2. Ask for the one you like, spelled out. “Give me the simple version of the chicken and rice, step by step, for two people.” Now you've got a recipe sized for your table.
  3. Swap anything you're missing. “I'm out of fresh garlic — what can I use instead?” It'll offer a substitution and how much to use.
Try saying it like this ↓

“What can I make for dinner with ground beef, potatoes, and frozen peas?”

“Give me an easy 4-ingredient dessert I can make tonight.”

“I'm out of buttermilk for this recipe — what's a substitute and how much?”

It's great for “how long do I roast a chicken,” “what temperature for salmon,” and “make this recipe for six instead of four.”

Double-check anything about food safety — cooking temperatures, how long leftovers keep, canning. An AI can be confidently wrong, and a real source (or the USDA) settles it.

Keep it open on the counter while you cook. Ask it questions mid-recipe like you'd ask a friend standing next to you. It won't mind repeating itself.
